Ameesha Patel Clarifies Rani Mukerji Cameo in Mangal Pandey
Ameesha recently told in an interview that in the film Mangal Pandey, Rani wasn’t the main female character. When Aamir told me the story, I disagreed with the British actor Toby Stephens. The story only had one romantic relationship. Aamir had a romantic relationship with a British actress. She became jealous, which resulted in some rough editing of the film. Rani was only supposed to be there for a short time as a visitor, to sing one song.
But Aamir had different plans
Rani got a more important part in the movie. Ameesha explained that Aamir decided to change the story halfway through filming. He wanted one love story with a British actor, but he also wanted a love story that the Indian audience could connect with. Rani started with an item song but ended up doing a Holi song with me. I never wondered why she did it.
Actually, she would always say on set, “hey, why are you so skinny, tell me” because that’s how she normally talks and I would be sitting there, talking politely and formally. We all had a lot of fun shooting, and it was a really different experience. You need to feel confident in yourself, ignore what others might say and focus on doing your job.
Rani Mukerji danced in a song named Vari Vaari and sang a romantic song named Holi Re with Aamir in the movie Mangal Pandey: The Rising. The movie was very successful in terms of ticket sales.
