Born x Raised Co-founder Chris Printup Die :
Tragic news struck the Born x Raised community as we mourn the untimely passing of co-founder Chris Printup, widely known as akaSpanto. Yesterday, on June 27, Opoyi reported the devastating news of his demise in a fatal car accident. Alongside Alex ‘2Tone’ Erdmann, Printup established the renowned company a decade ago, leaving an indelible mark in the industry. Throughout their journey, they collaborated with esteemed brands such as New Era, Converse, Babylon, and brought their distinct touch to numerous Los Angeles franchises including the Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, Rams, and LAFC. Their exceptional creativity and dedication continue to inspire us all.
In a profound testament to his resilience, Chris Printup, the co-founder of Born x Raised, confronted the immense challenges life presented him. His journey took an unexpected turn in 2013 when he received a devastating diagnosis of terminal cancer, merely a month after the inception of Born x Raised. However, against all odds, a ray of hope emerged in 2018 when it was reported that Printup had triumphed over his battle with cancer and emerged cancer-free.
A mere six months ago, in a poignant Instagram post, Printup bared his soul, reflecting upon the arduous path he had traversed. With utmost sincerity, he wrote, “I want to pause for a moment and reflect upon the extraordinary events that unfolded over the past decade. To those who glimpsed my Instagram highlight reel, it might have seemed effortless, but the truth is far from it. I originated from humble beginnings, with a father who experienced homelessness and a mother who grappled with mental illness. My early years were marked by constant entanglement with the system, from juvenile hall to extensive periods spent in the county. It was during my last period of incarceration that I conceived the idea of creating a clothing brand. While confined to the solitary confines of supermax, I nurtured the birth of BXR. (I’m not sure if anyone reading this has experienced that environment, but if you’ve ever endured a month subsisting on unappetizing meals, you’ll understand the struggle.)

Chris Printup Revealed his 10 years back Life :
Printup’s poignant words reveal not only his personal journey but also the immense resilience and determination that propelled him forward despite the adversities he faced.
A couple of years after our foray into the world of BXR, life took an unexpected turn. We were on the move, things were going well, and just a month after our momentous launch with Union, I received the devastating news: a terminal cancer diagnosis. Yes, terminal. From 2013 up until this very moment, I have been engaged in a relentless battle against this insidious disease. Four years of grueling chemotherapy, shedding 100 pounds of weight, and witnessing my hair fall out repeatedly. It has been an arduous journey, and through it all, I want to convey a message: life’s challenges can weigh heavily upon us all, but it’s okay. You will prevail, and things will eventually improve,” he continued, his words laced with unwavering determination.
“I stand here now, cancer-free, liberated from the confines of incarceration, with a roof over my family’s head. As I look back on everything that has transpired, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. A mere five years ago, I found myself in the darkest abyss of my existence. And yet, just this past week, I found myself gracing the pages of Vogue, the New York Times, and numerous other esteemed platforms. I am immensely thankful for these opportunities that have come my way. If you had told me a decade ago that I would be hosting a grand dinner with Nike atop the Soho House, surrounded by 100 of my closest friends, I would have dismissed it as pure fantasy,” he added, expressing heartfelt appreciation to those who held a special place in his life.
Chris Printup’s remarkable journey serves as a testament to the triumph of the human spirit over adversity, reminding us all that no matter how dire our circumstances may appear, there is always hope for a brighter future.
In a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Butch, Chris Printup and Born x Raised joined forces with Levi’s for an extraordinary project this month. This collaboration served as a poignant homage to Butch, whose passing occurred earlier this year. Printup, reminiscing about his cherished memories, shared with Vogue the inspiration behind the endeavor, stating, “I stumbled upon this Levi’s denim jacket that he used to wear extensively during my childhood, and in that moment, I knew I had to dedicate a project to honor my father’s legacy.”
The captivating photos for this remarkable Levi’s collaboration were skillfully captured in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, as well as in White River, Arizona, the cherished childhood home of Printup’s grandfather. This merging of locations added a profound depth to the project, weaving together the threads of personal history and heritage.
Through this collaboration, Born x Raised and Levi’s have beautifully intertwined the essence of remembrance and artistic expression, paying homage to the indelible imprint left by a beloved father.
