This year’s Met Gala has already given us some internet-breaking archival and reimagined looks that honor Lagerfeld’s legacy brought forth by the crème de la crème of the fashion and entertainment industries. While we are still reeling from the iconic fashion moments of fashion’s biggest night out, we take a look at all the Indians at the Met Gala who attended the most awaited fashion event of the year.
Theme of Met Gala 2023:
This year’s theme is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” based on a new Costume Institute exhibit exploring the iconic designer’s work. Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 at age 85, spent decades creating clothes for Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi and Chanel, in addition to his own namesake label.

Alia Bhatt:
Alia Bhatt‘s much-awaited Met Gala debut did not disappoint. Bhatt wore a custom Prabal Gurung gown inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s bridal look for Chanel’s 1992 fall/winter collection. Her all-white dress was embroidered with pearls, giving her a dreamy look, while her edgy white fingerless gloves were a nod to Lagerfeld’s personal style.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas:
Priyanka Chopra Jonas chose a Maison Valentino look, which featured an all-black strapless dress with a bow and thigh-high slit. She also wore white leather gloves, a black felt cape and white bows on the sleeves and finished off the look with some Bulgari jewelry.
Isha Ambani:
Another custom Prabal Gurung creation was seen on entrepreneur Isha Ambani at this year’s Met Gala. She was donning a stunning black one-shoulder dress with hand-embellished crystal and pearl detailing on the border with a long silk chiffon train in the same hue. Ambani looked glamorous in the outfit paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and a Chanel doll bag designed by Karl Lagerfeld himself.
Natasha Poonawalla:
Natasha Poonawalla, entrepreneur and style-icon, once again leaned into her love for a dramatic, avant-garde aesthetic and wore a custom all-silver Schiaparelli gown that featured long, edgy sides on her face, inspired by Schiaparelli’s Haute Some of the looks were inspired by those featured in Couture. 2023 Collection. Poonawalla completed the look with a sleek ponytail and looked chic, snatched and futuristic.
Divya Mehta Jatiya:
Another Indian diva who attended the Met Gala was Mehta Jatia, who also sported a Prabal Gurung look. Her outfit consisted of a black bodice made of a gown and billowing emerald green skirt and Ashoka earrings by William Goldberg. She had middle-parted hair pulled back into a single ponytail and she noded to her Indian roots with a stunning embellished temple design headgear.
