Mrunal Thakur spoke about mental health and depression in a recent interview:
Last month, Mrunal Thakur talked about being ‘naïve’ and ‘vulnerable’ on Instagram Stories. She shared a picture of herself crying, following which many on social media expressed concern about the actor’s well-being. Now in a new interview Mrunal has revealed about her crying picture. She also said that social media ‘gives the illusion of a world that does not exist’.
“There are times I post a happy picture, but I don’t feel like it. The day I posted that picture, I felt powerful, happy, and courageous, knowing that no problem can bring you down in life.” There are days when we lose our self-esteem, confidence and we question our worth. Self-doubt takes over. In a world where there is an abundance of information and ideas, so many voices around you. You stop listening to your inner voice. It takes a lot of courage to be vulnerable in front of the world,” Mrunal said this in an interview.
After sharing a picture of herself crying, social media users speculated whether the actor was referring to mental health or depression. Speaking about it, Mrunal said in the same interview, “There are people who need help in terms of mental health. This is a sensitive subject and can be misinterpreted. That’s a different conversation entirely. Depression is a big word that needs to be understood deeply and should not be used carelessly. My intention was to normalize feeling low. We tend to push these feelings deep inside and don’t want to hear or talk about them. This needs to change. Admitting that you’re not feeling well can only help you resolve it. I want to let the world know that “I’m not afraid to show or say what I feel, and you shouldn’t either”.
Mrunal also said that ‘it is normal to feel low’. She said that today people are so engrossed in their phones that it gives the illusion of a world that does not exist, everything they see online is ‘not glamorous and aspirational’. Mrunal said that those who are posting dreamy pictures must also be going through tough times as she told fans not to believe what they see on social media as it makes them think that everyone is happy , while they are sad.
