Tarla Dalal, the real-life inspiration behind the film, was a renowned Indian food writer, chef, cookbook author, and host of cooking shows. She achieved significant recognition in her field and became the first Indian to be awarded a Padma Shri in the culinary skills category in 2007. Tarla Dalal’s influence extends beyond her recipes, as her “desi nuskhe” (home remedies) are still widely discussed and credited with reshaping vegetarian food in India.
Huma Qureshi holds a personal connection to Tarla Dalal, as she reminisces about her childhood experiences with the renowned chef’s recipes. Huma’s mother used to have a copy of Tarla Dalal’s book in the kitchen, and many of her recipes made their way into Huma’s school tiffin. Huma fondly recalls assisting her mother in making Tarla’s homemade mango ice cream. Playing the awe-inspiring character of Tarla has allowed Huma to revisit those cherished childhood memories, and she expresses her gratitude to Ronnie, Ashwiny, and Nitesh for entrusting her with this role.
