Directed by Francis Lawrence, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” dropped its first trailer at CinemaCon on Thursday to transport audiences back to the dystopian nation of Panem, 64 years before Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen played District 12.

The first footage teases the invention of the Hunger Games and focuses on Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), decades before he becomes the tyrannical president of Panem.
When the Hunger Games are enacted, and the inventors want the teen-duel-to-the-death contest to be less about survival and more about pageantry, Coriolanus is reluctantly hired by Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Ziegler). A tribute is paid to from poor District 12. He is trying to salvage his livelihood after his family’s fall from grace, and when the warrior Lucy captures Panem’s heart, Coriolanus sees a way to help each other but they They also start having feelings for each other.
